After going through a whole offseason of drama, the San Francisco 49ers have finally reached an agreement with star WR Brandon Ayiuk on a four-year, $120M extension, sources tell Mike Garafolo & Ian Rapoport. After the Cowboys decided to pay Cee Dee Lamb, a couple of days later the 49ers agreed to an extension with Ayiuk.
The top five highest WRs, from highest to lowest, going into the 2024 season go 1. Vikings' Justin Jefferson, 2. Cowboys' Cee Dee Lamb, 3. Eagles' AJ Brown, & then we see a tie at 5 with Dolphins' Tyreek Hill and Brandon Ayuik.
Ayiuk is coming off a career year in receiving yards with over 1,300 yards. 49ers fans, players, and the front office should be happy with the extension. One person in particular is the 49ers young QB star, Brock Purdy. The two will look to continue to build on the success that they had and created from last season. As I said, 49ers fans, players, and the front office should be happy with the extension, however, the 49ers still have one more task at hand and that's paying All-Pro OT Trent Williams.
"I’ve had some contact with him. Been good talking to him. We're negotiating hard. Hopefully, it’s getting close," said the head coach of the 49ers, Kyle Shanahan.
Without Willams, the whole game changes for the 49ers. Brock Purdy in 2023 - with Trent Williams healthy: 28 TDs to 2 INTs. without Trent Williams: 3 TDs to 9 INTs. There is no doubt that when Williams is on this team, they can win big games in the regular and post-season. It is now September with the first game of the NFL season just days away, this shows that Williams is comfortable being away from the organization for as long as he wants until he gets what he wants.
